The Psalmist writes in Psalm 81:10-16:

I am the LORD your God who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it. But My people would not listen to Me; Israel would not submit to me…

If my people would only listen to Me, if Israel would only follow My ways, how quickly I would subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their foes!

Those who hate the LORD would cringe before Him, and their punishment would last forever. But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.

This is a cry from God’s heart to His children. This cry is an indication of God’s desire to bless and prosper His children. God’s desire is to feed us with the finest of wheat and honey.  In fact God says in Matthew 7:11; “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him! There is no greater proof than this that God desires to give His best to His children. Remember, He has already given us his very best by sending Jesus to die for our sins. In connection with that, Paul reminds us in Romans 8:32; “He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all – how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?

So contrary to whatever lies Satan would want us to believe, God’s greatest desire is to bless and prosper His children. However, in order for us to experience God’s intended blessings, He gives us two conditions in Psalm 81. First: God wants us to listen to Him and follow His ways. This simply means God wants us to obey His Word. Second: God wants us to open our mouths wide so that He can fill them. This means He wants us to take the initiative. We must open our mouths wide by praying. We must also open our mouths wide by taking the initiative and believing God to bless us because we have called upon Him in prayer.

Would you do that today? Would you pray and take the initiative to pursue whatever God puts on your heart and believe Him to bless and prosper it for His purposes?

Let us believe that God will bless whatever initiative we take to see our dreams come true as individuals, as families and corporately as a church for His glory.

Let us open our mouths wide. God has promised to fill it.

With a wide open mouth,

Pastor ABK.
