All through this month, I want us to reflect over what it means to offer worship unto our God. Jesus made a very important statement about worship in the book of John. He said: “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” (John 4:23)

God is looking for true worshippers. True worship means we present our whole lives before God and totally seek to do what brings pleasure to His heart. There is a cost to true worship. True worship will cost us: our time, our talents and our treasures. True worship does not come cheap.

There is an interesting story about a woman called Mary who poured extravagant worship on Jesus. The Bible says Mary “took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.”(John 12:3) In fact, the Bible tells us that the cost of that perfume was a whole year’s wages. Cost, however, was no barrier to Mary. Nothing would stand in the way of offering her very best to God.

Question: Are you offering your best to God? Is your worship costing you time, talent and treasure? Or are you holding back from giving of yourself to God in these areas? Mary offered her very best to God. She offered excellent worship, not her leftovers.

In Malachi, we hear God lamenting about shoddy worship. He cries out “And you say, 'What a burden!' and you sniff at it contemptuously," says the LORD Almighty.
"When you bring injured, crippled or diseased animals and offer them as sacrifices, should I accept them from your hands?" says the LORD.  "Cursed is the cheat who has an acceptable male in his flock and vows to give it, but then sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord. For I am a great king," says the LORD Almighty, "and my name is to be feared among the nations.” (Malachi 1:13-14)

My prayer is that every one of us will offer our very best to God in every area of our life. We will offer the best of our time, talents and treasures in honor of our Great God and King.
God deserves our very best because He gave His very best to us.
